Mexico City.- The Secretary of National Defense, Luis Cresencio Sandoval, minimized before deputies the hacking of the files of the federal agency and affirmed that it did not put national security at risk.

During a meeting with members of the National Defense Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, the general was questioned about the leaking of emails and documents referring to security operations, Army contracts and even the health of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

“He replied that there had been no risk in this regard, that practically the leaks that occurred were of a level that is called two, which are emails and information that are exchanged between different agencies, but nothing compromising,” said the Movimiento Ciudadano deputy, Sergio Barrera.

He commented that, according to the head of the Sedena, hacking attempts continue to occur and as an example he informed them that in the last month there have been 3,500 attempts.

Among the measures taken to address this situation, Sandoval told them that they are training the personnel, in addition to the fact that investigation files are already open before the military courts, without anyone being identified so far.

“They made it clear to us that many of the issues that could be more important in light of the information, such as the National Defense plan, the war plan, the strategic operations plan and so on, all of this is protected, not even in the cloud or in any information that they could steal, that they have it totally apart, that at no time could that information be stolen,” Barrera said.

The legislator reported that during the meeting, which lasted five hours, they discussed the new tasks that the Sedena has been given in matters such as the construction of priority works.

In this regard, he said, Sandoval assured that they have the capacity and the personnel to carry them out.

In this sense, the general announced that the new airline in charge of Sedena will be based at the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) and at the new airport in Tulum, Quintana Roo.

On the subject of the huachicol, the deputy said that the head of the Sedena assured that they continue their fight, hence the theft of fuel has decreased from 80,000 to 5,000 barrels per day.

Barrera indicated that Sandoval was asked about the need for more dialogue, coordination and openness, a demand to which the federal official responded positively.
