While we mentioned earlier the very good sales of Sonic Frontiers over the past few months, SEGA management also took advantage of this period of dialogue with investors to announce excellent news to the employees of the group.

Monthly salaries up 30% at SEGA from July 1

Last year, it was the Bandai Namco group which made headlines by announcing an increase in the base salary of its developers of more than 5,000 dollars per year. Capcom had done the same in March 2022, but only for its Japanese employees. It is now SEGA who is getting started by announcing the news in this press release.

“Specifically, effective July 1, 2023, SEGA plans to increase the average monthly salary of existing employees by approximately 30% by increasing base salary and increasing the ratio of base salary to annual salary by incorporating a part of the premiums. As a result of this revision, the starting salary for college graduates will increase from ¥222,000 to ¥300,000, an increase of approximately 35%. »

SEGA says this decision is part of a move to create a healthy and comfortable work environment so that the company remains, indirectly, competitive in the global marketplace. Concretely, the average annual salary will increase by around 15%, but some employees will notice a greater increase than others, like young university graduates. These lucky employees will see their monthly salary increase from $1,650 to $2,220 (after conversion).

SEGA’s system consists of increasing the ratio between the base salary and the annual salary by incorporating part of the bonuses. The group also wants to introduce a “prepayment system for retirement allowances”, which will also influence the rate of salary increases if this system is selected by employees. It’s hard to know if these increases are intended for employees around the world or only for Japanese employees, but the news remains excellent for the thousands of employees of the group.
