Senator Feinstein suffers a fall and is taken to the hospital

WASHINGTON – The senator Dianne Feinstein, the oldest congresswoman, fell at home and went to the hospital, her office said Wednesday.

The democrat 90-year-old from California, “briefly went to the hospital yesterday afternoon as a precaution after a minor fall at home,” the statement from his office said.

X-rays taken showed no problem and the senator has returned home, spokesman Adam Russell said, offering no further details.

The news comes as Feinstein has faced growing questions about her health and ability to perform the duties of a senator.

Feinstein has been absent from the Senate for several months this year because she was hospitalized with the shingles virus and its side effects. Since she returned to work in May, she has appeared in a wheelchair, apparently confused and disoriented.

She insists she is fit for the job, though her office said in May that she is still having vision and balance problems as a result of the virus.

Feinstein, who took office as senator in 1992, recently announced that she will not run for re-election in 2024. Several Democrats have already announced their candidacy to replace her.
