Juarez City.- President Andrés Manuel López Obrador promulgated a legal reform on Tuesday that obliges the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) to include the gender perspective and the right to a life without violence in all plans and programs of the agency.

This is an addition to article 45 of the General Law on Women’s Access to a Life Free of Violence, which will enter into force tomorrow, Wednesday.

In accordance with current legislation, the SEP was already obliged to eliminate, from all educational programs, materials that advocate violence against women or contribute to the promotion of stereotypes that discriminate and promote inequality between women and men.

However, with the modifications, endorsed by both chambers of Congress, the agency must also include information on women’s rights, in order to contribute to prevention.

“The Secretariat will have to include in the Study Plans and Programs the right of women, adolescents and girls to a life free of violence and education with a gender perspective, which will be transversal axes, for prevention, integration and social development ; and for the achievement of equality between women and men”, refers to the decree.

The original initiative was raised by the PRI senator, Nuvia Mayorga, who warned about the importance of curbing, through education, the feminicidal violence that is registered in the Country.
