A 14-year-old boy killed eight students and a security guard at a school in Belgrade, Serbia. The author of the shots would be a seventh grader, his initials are KK He said the gun belonged to his father. He was a student at the institution and was arrested in its courtyard.

Milan Milosevic, the father of one of the students at Vladislav Ribnikar Elementary School, said his daughter was in the class where the gun was fired. “She managed to escape. First she shot the teacher and then she started shooting randomly,” Milosevic told N1.

“The shooter shot the teacher first and then the children, who crouched under the desks,” Milosevic was quoted as saying by his daughter. “I saw the security guard lying under the table. I saw two girls with blood on their shirts. They say that (KK) was calm and a good student. He had recently joined her class,” he added.

Milan Nedeljkovic, mayor of the central Vracar district where the school is located, said doctors were fighting to save the teacher’s life.

The Interior Ministry reported that eight children and a security guard had been killed and six children had been hospitalized along with the teacher.

A girl who attends a high school adjacent to Vladislav Ribnikar told public television RTS: “I saw children running out of school, screaming. Parents came, they were terrified. Then I heard three shots.”

Mass shootings are rare in Serbia, which has very strict gun laws. In the western Balkans there are thousands of illegal weapons after the wars and riots of the 1990s. The Serbian authorities have granted several amnesties to owners who hand over or register illegal weapons.
