Created in 2008, the series which tells the eventful daily life of the Roy family will end at the end of its season 4, expected for March 26 on HBO.

Hard blow for fans of the Roy family. In an interview at New Yorker, the creator of the series Succession, jesse armstrong, announced that the fourth season of the program – which is due to air on March 26 on HBO – will be the last.

“I always knew Succession wouldn’t last forever. The ending was always clear in my head. Ever since Season 2, I was like, ‘What if this was the next one, or the next one, or the one right after? ‘”, he assures in the columns of the American media.

In this interview, Jesse Armstrong explains that he had the idea of putting an end to Succession from 2021 when writing season 4 with some of its screenwriters. “It’s the first time I said to them, ‘Listen, I think this should be the last, what do you think?'” he said.

“We proposed several scenarios. Two of them allowed us to do two additional seasons. Another offered us the possibility of continuing the series indefinitely”, adds Jesse Armstrong.

And to conclude: “Finally, we came up with something more muscular and complete, in order to conclude this story in a strong way and, without a doubt, that has always been my favorite version.”

A possible spin-off

If a page turns to Succession, Jesse Armstrong does not close the door to possible derivative series inspired by the universe of the series. “The history of this precise succession is complete. […] But I have a very strong feeling that there could be something else in a related universe, or with related characters, even some common characters,” he says.

Created in 2018 with the aim of maintaining the popularity of HBO after the end of Game Of Thrones, Succession tells the eventful daily life of a family at the head of one of the largest media conglomerates in the world. While Logan Roy, the father, has a heart attack and thinks of retiring, his children dispute his succession.

Hailed by critics, the series has enjoyed phenomenal success since its first season and continues to collect prestigious awards. In 2022, Succession notably won four Emmy awards and three Golden Globe awards, including Best Drama Series and Best Actor for Jeremy Strong’s performance.
