The series recorded the highest viewing increase in HBO history between its first and second episodes on the day of their release.

After claiming the title of HBO’s second-best start in over 15 years, the series The Last of Us sets a new record. According to data from Warner Bros. Discovery, relayed by varietythe second episode of the program, broadcast on January 23, attracted 5.7 million viewers.

Thus, HBO recorded a 22% increase between the viewing figures for the first episode (4.7 million viewers) and those for the second, on the day of their broadcast. A gap that represents the “largest increase in audience for an original series in the history of the platform”, according to HBO.

The channel also shared audience figures for the first episode, saying that after a full week of availability, it has now been watched by 18 million viewers.

Highly anticipated by fans, the series The Last of Us is an adaptation of the hit video game of the same name which has sold over 10 million copies worldwide.

The action of the series takes place 20 years after the destruction of modern civilization, by a mushroom which transforms humans into sorts of zombies, and follows the scenario of the original game. The hero, Joel, a survivor played by Pedro Pascal, meets Ellie, a teenager played by Bella Ramsey whom he must protect at all costs because she is humanity’s last hope.

The third episode of The Last of Us will be released on January 29 on HBO in the United States before being broadcast the next day in France on Prime Video. A total of nine episodes are expected for this first season.
