Severe weather alert at the DMV, high probability of storms for this afternoon

Heavy rain, hail and high wind speeds are expected this afternoon in Washington DC and parts of Maryland and Virginia. This extreme weather forecast could turn out to be one of the most extreme DC has seen in nearly a decade.

This noon, the DMV area is at level 4 of 5 on the weather risk scale. According to Storm Team4 meteorologists, the DMV has not reached this alert level since 2013.

“Today we have significantly high severe weather potential in our area,” said Storm Team4 meteorologist Jessica Faith.

The NWS warned on social media that this afternoon’s winds could reach “destructive levels locally.”

Authorities are asking all DMV residents to remain vigilant as this potentially severe weather unfolds.
