Sewer pipe spill

For four days a sewage pipe was broken and at least 15 million gallons of that water ended up here on the Inter coastal in Boynton beach, fortunately the authorities repaired the pipe this Thursday.

Containing the area where a drainage pipe ends, the Boynton Beach authorities have faced the last 4 days with a sewage pipe that broke last Monday. They estimate that 4 million gallons of wastewater left the sewage pipe and entered the drain.

The ruptured pipe is located one block away on Boynton Beach Blvd. The ruptured pipe is approximately 50 years old and from the salt water underground the pipe deteriorated and ruptured. There were several attempts throughout the week to repair the pipeline, even with the help of divers. Finally, the pipe was repaired on Thursday night.

Poonam Kalat, Director of Public Services for Boynton Beach, says: “this has nothing to do with drinking water, drinking water is safe the spill is contained within the Intercoastal, and if there is an impact to the environment, but not we want people to be affected so at least we have it contained in an area that we can control and clean up.”

Already the pipe fixed. It is now a matter of the city finishing cleaning up the contained zone and they will be doing laboratory analysis of the water to let the community know when the water in the zone will be safe.
