Beijing, April 10. A well-known Shanghai restaurant with three Michelin stars and listed in Asia’s 50 Best is under investigation after several diners reported suffering from stomach problems after dining at the establishment.

The restaurant, called Ultraviolet by Paul Pairet and which only serves ten customers a day, is under the scrutiny of the market regulatory authority of the Chinese megalopolis, which is investigating the restaurant’s suppliers and will mediate between it and customers who have filed complaints. , according to the official newspaper Global Times.

Several people assured that they were diagnosed with acute gastritis or gastroenteritis two days after dining at the establishment, where the bill amounted to 6,000 yuan (873 dollars, 800 euros) per person.

The diners, including a man surnamed Wang and his wife, said they contacted the restaurant, where they received an email four days later blaming their health problems on a circulating gastrointestinal virus (norovirus). and any responsibility of the premises for what happened was denied.

Outraged by the response, Wang recounted his experience on Chinese social media and filed a complaint with the regulatory authority.

Shortly after, another customer named Song joined Wang’s account, saying that he and his brother suffered the same symptoms after dining at Ultraviolet in mid-March, and that they tested negative for norovirus.

An employee of the restaurant quoted by the Zongxiang News portal said that the establishment is waiting for the results of the investigation and considered it “ridiculous” that diners blamed them on the networks for their alleged intoxication.

Although the official investigation continues, the market regulation office in charge of the complaint specified that given the date of the complaint, the optimal time to investigate what happened has passed, since to determine if there was food poisoning it is necessary to take samples of food in the first 72 hours.
