Warner Bros has released the new trailer for Shazam! Gods Fury, the new chapter in the story of the boy who gains the power of gods by speaking the magic word. And it is precisely the source of these powers that is the center of all the tension in the new feature.

This time, the studio gave much more details about the plot of the new adventure, presenting more of the motivations that will take Hespera (Helen Mirren) and Kalypso (Lucy Lyu) to Earth and the level of threat they pose to the Shazam Family and Worldwide. And, as many people already imagined, the hero’s powers are the center of this dispute.

As the trailer presents, the Daughters of Atlas go to the human world to recover their father’s essence, which was “stolen” by a group of children. So what we have are these Greek deities and an army of mythological monsters threatening existence.

And what stands out in the new video is that, in addition to these plot details, we see just how much of a threat these characters pose to Shazam (Zachary Levi) and his brothers. In addition to having the support of chimeras and dragons, Hespera and Kalypso seem to be able to absorb the power of the Marvel Family, making the heroes go back to being just children.

This turnaround is something that makes a lot of sense within the logic of Shazam! Gods Fury. As established in the 2019 film — and, before that, in the comics — the word magic is an acronym for the names of the gods from whom the character borrows his powers. Among them, for example, is the strength and invulnerability of Atlas.

So when the mythological titan’s daughters come to Earth to claim that essence, it’s only natural that we see them affect the entire Shazam Family, especially by stripping each of them of that trait. And, from what the trailer suggests, Freddy (Jack Dylan Grazer) is the one who should be most affected by this, as he will be captured by the villains.

In addition, the trailer shows much more of the action that the film should bring. At the same time, it’s curious to note that he tones down the jokes quite a bit, limiting himself to just a few humorous shots here and there, bringing a much more serious atmosphere than in the previous video.

Shazam! Gods Fury hits theaters March 16, and its debut should answer more about his role within DC’s future. The first feature was already well highlighted in the then Extended Cinematographic Universe of DC (DCEU, its acronym in English) and, by all indications, this sequel should remain even more isolated from films like The Flash and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdomwho also belong to this about-to-be-rebooted universe.
