Mexico City .- The Head of Government, Claudia Sheinbaum, congratulated her mother, Annie Pardo Cemo, for obtaining the National Science Award.
He made a video that he published on his official social networks to highlight his mother’s career and later accused that there are pettiness in those who criticized the award.
In her video, the president said she was proud that Pardo Cemo, at 82 years of age, is deserving of the award and is active in research, teaching and love for her family.
She spoke about her mother’s academic career in the country and abroad, said that her scientific contributions are reflected in more than 180 publications that have been cited more than 25,000 times, and listed awards and distinctions that she has obtained.
“She is a woman who has opened a gap to many scientists, to many women.
“In addition, from her work, my brother, my sister, her six grandchildren and her three great-grandchildren always receive all the love possible. She is a great friend, always generous and very modest,” she said.
Sheinbaum also said that in many institutes she was minimized for being a woman, for having a social commitment, even for participating in union movements.
“She came out from below with her effort. Thank you very much, mom, for what you have given to your family, and to your country, to Mexico! We are proud of you,” he said.
Sheibaum continued talking about the award to his mother at the end of his participation in the “Science and Education in Transformation Forum”.
He accused that those who criticize the recognition are petty and pointed out that it is something very difficult to obtain, that it is not the decision of any politician.
“There is a lot of meanness in a lot of people, particularly political adversaries who cannot believe that a woman () there really is in some people in particular, there is also enormous frustration in their lives because only that can explain that hatred, that meanness, so I am very proud of my mother,” she said.
“Let them keep on babbling,” he added.
