Shooting, car crash that left man dead investigated

Authorities are investigating an early morning shooting and car crash Tuesday that left a man dead in Fort Lauderdale, police said.

According to police, the incident occurred shortly before 1:30 a.m.

Fort Lauderdale police responded to a ShotSpotter alert at 1500 NW 3rd Court and found evidence of a shooting.

Shortly after, there was a car accident at the intersection of Broward Blvd and NW 7th Avenue.

Officers determined that one of the passengers was shot and it appeared the driver was attempting to take the victim to Broward Health Medical Center when the accident occurred.

Footage captured by NBC6 showed a wrecked black vehicle being towed from the scene of the accident with an apparent bullet hole and another gray vehicle also being towed away.

“I was in the store with a customer and I heard a loud crash, so when I went out to look I saw the car and then another car flying towards Walgreens,” said a witness, Chris Jones. “I didn’t see the crash, but I did see a woman jump out of the car screaming for help and she said her boyfriend was shot.”

FLFR transported the victim, an adult male, to BHMC, where he was later pronounced dead.

Broward Blvd was closed for several hours due to the investigation, but has since been reopened to traffic.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact FLPD or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
