Shooting leaves one man dead, another wounded in Columbia Heights

One man was killed and another injured after a shooting reported Wednesday in Columbia Heights northwest of Washington DC, police said.

According to the preliminary report, at 9:21 pm members of the Third District heard the sound of gunshots in the 3000 block of 14th Street. Upon arrival, they found a man with gunshot wounds who was later pronounced dead by paramedics.

The fatality was identified as Kevin Scott, 33, a resident of District Heights in DC, according to the Metropolitan Police.

Shortly thereafter, officers responded to the 1300 block of Northwest Columbia Road for a report of a second victim. There they found a man with gunshot wounds who was eventually transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

For their part, witnesses told Telemundo 44 the moments of the events.

“I was on the corner, about a block away, when I heard the shots. When I got there, (the man) was already lying down,” said a resident who preferred not to be named.

The Metropolitan Police Department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons involved in the incident.
