War Thunder is a simulation specializing in the combat of different vehicles such as planes, ships, tanks and helicopters. There is an arcade game mode that offers fast and uncomplicated fun, but there are also variants for realism and simulation.
And especially with the realistic variants, the players keep discussing how realistic the military technology is. This applies in particular to the flight simulator fans, who are considered to be a particularly fanatical (in a positive sense) community anyway.
War Thunder: Action-packed trailer for the Danger Zone update
But in the current case, the whole thing went too far: Because how DualShockers reported a user named spacenavy90 im Forum Military documents classified as confidential by War Thunder leaked. Specifically, it was about the F-16 fighter jet: In a thread on “History, Performance and Discussion” of the F-16 Fighting Falcon, spacenavy90 posted a document on the jet’s control panel, the discussion revolved around the air Air missile AMRAAM.
Only “confidential”, not “secret”
The user apparently published part of the non-public F-16 manual (the document has since been deleted). Although this is no longer classified as top secret, it still has a status of “confidential” or “restricted”. It is currently unknown whether this will have any consequences for the leaker, since the F-16 entered service in 1978.
It is not the first time that military information has “illegally” leaked to the public via a War Thunder forum or the game’s subreddit, this has happened several times in the past: information about tanks from China, France, for example and UK published.
