Next Tuesday, January 31, 2023, the pay TV and streaming provider Sky will switch off the next two programs. This time, Sky is removing NatGeo and NatGeo Wild, two Disney documentary channels, from the channel list.

At Sky, the special offer is currently being significantly reduced. In the last few weeks we have reported several program shutdowns, including the children’s channel Junior and the NBC universal channel E! Entertainment from the Sky channel list.

Sky customers have to be prepared for further transmitter shutdowns. According to that Online magazine of Merkur Sky is ending its partnership with Disney for National Geographic’s two documentary channels NatGeo and NatGeo Wild.

“Good partnership” is now at the end

The changes are part of Sky’s new content strategy. With Sky Nature and Sky Documentaries, customers have two in-house channels at their disposal, according to a statement: “We will therefore phase out NatGeo and NatGeo Wild after many years of good partnership,” explained Christian Asanger, Vice President Entertainment Sky Germany. “The switch-off is exclusively related to Sky’s strategy of increasingly focusing on its own exclusive content. It was a conscious decision by Sky Deutschland to part with these channels. We would like to thank our partners for the many years of good cooperation. We want to put more focus on our broadcaster brands Sky Documentaries, Sky Nature and Sky Crime and invest in our own content, which can then only be seen exclusively on Sky.” So Sky wants to increasingly rely on exclusive content, it is said.

However, the Disney channels NatGeo and NatGeo Wild can also be seen on Magenta TV and Disney+ in Germany and are therefore not very attractive for the program offering. How it looks with new channels on offer at Sky, and what else the company is planning, has not yet leaked out.
