Recently James Gunn has declared that Henry Cavill will no longer play the role of Superman in view of the next productions since the character will presumably be presented to the general public in a different key than what has been done so far, the protagonist will have a more youthful cut even if he will not be assimilable as seen in the TV series Smallville. Speaking of which, the creators of Smallville (Alfred Gough and Miles Millar) have revealed what they would do today if given the chance to revisit the DC series. Let’s find out their ideas and statements together.

Superman according to the creators of Smallville

Alfred Gough and Miles Millar reveal what they would do differently if they could revisit Smallville, discussing what story decisions would change about the young Superman television series.

During an interview with THR, which focused on the Netflix TV series Wednesday, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar reflected on the cultural impact and legacy left by the Smallville TV series on the general public, deepening their analysis going a discusses what they would do today if given the opportunity to change the series. Both creators have declared without too much ado that one of the aspects they would change today is the characterization of the character of Lana Lang, played by Kristen Kreuk, and her relationship with the character of Clark Kent played in the TV series by Tom Welling. In fact, their relationship led to a repetition of events that somehow made the narrative repetitive at times. Below we share with you some key excerpts from the interview with Alfred Gough and Miles Millar reported by Screenrant.

Alfred Gough went straight to the target, mentioning precisely the relationship between the two protagonists of the TV series

The Clark-Lana thing has gone on too long. Something else had to happen at that juncture. I think it was a bit repetitive. My youngest daughter right now, finally after Wednesday she came back to watch Smallville is on season 2 she said, “What’s the matter with these two?”, The answer is that it was a different time in history. So, I think there in those aspects, if we go back, we’d probably be a little more adventurous with some of those relationships.

Miles Millar then continued by confirming what his colleague Alfred Gough said:

We were very cautious and just very aware that we wanted to go to five seasons, and we ended up with 10 seasons. Again, as a father of girls, I think the female characters we would make today would be different. She could have been a much stronger character and she always felt put in a position of weakness. She is a different era, a different time.

The TV series

The TV series Smallville has had a great cultural impact thanks to its strong success achieved during the years of its publication. The production narrated the events that revolved around the lives of young Clark Kent, young Lana Lang and young Lex Luthor played by Michael Rosenbaum. The series has given way to a very long serialization thanks to which it has managed to dissect all the growth phases of the protagonist characters, from inexperienced heroes to becoming real icons. In case you have never had the opportunity to follow these events, we remind you that on Amazon you can find the complete box set of all seasons.
