During an interview with THR, which focused on the Netflix TV series Wednesday, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar reflected on the cultural impact and legacy left by the Smallville TV series on the general public, deepening their analysis going a discusses what they would do today if given the opportunity to change the series. Both creators have declared without too much ado that one of the aspects they would change today is the characterization of the character of Lana Lang, played by Kristen Kreuk, and her relationship with the character of Clark Kent played in the TV series by Tom Welling. The Clark-Lana thing has gone on too long. Something else had to happen at that juncture. I think it was a bit repetitive. My youngest daughter right now, finally after Wednesday she came back to watch Smallville is on season 2 she said, “What’s the matter with these two?”, The answer is that it was a different time in history. So, I think there in those aspects, if we go back, we’d probably be a little more adventurous with some of those relationships.
Miles Millar then continued by confirming what his colleague Alfred Gough said:
We were very cautious and just very aware that we wanted to go to five seasons, and we ended up with 10 seasons. Again, as a father of girls, I think the female characters we would make today would be different. She could have been a much stronger character and she always felt put in a position of weakness. She is a different era, a different time.
