Smalville: why Tom Welling put a stop to production

In an episode of Talk City Podcastin which Tom Welling (Clark Kent) and Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor) reveal behind the scenes of the mythical series to the public, the interpreter of Superman confided thathe did not always respect the physical requirements which went hand in hand with his character. One summer, he confesses to being rather “let it go“, enough to be summoned by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the creators of the series. “He had a discussion. There was a summer when I made it a point to do what I wanted, eat what I wanted. And, at the same time, I was in the gym every day with my buddy, who is a huge weightlifter, so I was ingesting horrible calories, while lifting weights, and I just bulked up. It wasn’t intestinal fat. I was just plump, but I think being on set, that kind of weight went away, because I wasn’t doing those things anymore. There were no shirtless scenes for a few weeks“, revealed the actor.
