The American group unveiled its latest innovations this Wednesday for its traditional developer conference.

No surprise announcements for Google. For its developer conference, the tech giant followed its program which had been widely leaked, including by itself. Thus, we could already see in Paris in recent days the advertisements of the Pixel 7a, and its folding smartphone was announced last week. Here is what to remember from Google I/O 2023

New additions to the Pixel range

Let’s start with its most spectacular product: Google introduced its folding smartphone, the Pixel Fold to compete with the Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold. Elegant and with fold which remains very discreet visually, the Pixel Fold will rely enormously on the artificial intelligence of its chip to offer computational photography which will catch up with all your small errors and embellish the rendering (eraser to erase annoying elements, correction of the tint of the photo, the exposure, the blur…).

The other highly anticipated smartphone was the Pixel 7a. Suffice to say, it is a model that comes to strike a very big blow on the mid-range (priced at 509 euros on the Google Store).

Finally, Google introduced its Pixel Tablet. Its role will be simple: take over the home and be a mobile asset where the Google Nest Hub smart displays used to show versatility and serve as a key household role, albeit static.

Lots of artificial intelligence

It was the heart of the conference, with an expected but notable announcement, the arrival of a new language model in artificial intelligence. Equivalent to OpenAI’s GPT and its ChatGPT, Palm-2 has not revealed many details about how it works but promises to irrigate the entire Google ecosystem, starting with the Search search engine, via Bard, the robot conversational.

Want a red bike for mountain descents? So Bard will find it for you and give you all the advice possible, obviously using all the advertising firepower of Google. Bard, precisely, will now be available in many countries but not yet in France because it still only works in English.

• Support for developers

Inevitably, the conference was largely dedicated to developers and how they can use it in their coding work. Again, thanks to artificial intelligence. For example, so that the machine finds potential code errors in a few seconds, or comes to optimize the latter.

Some new features for Android 14

Nothing incredible in this regard: you will find new customization tools for the locked screen, but also to modify your home screen wallpaper as you wish. It will also be possible to ask the AI to create the wallpaper of his dreams by styling photos unearthed on Google.

Finally, Google is bringing its “Find my device” function to Apple’s level by now relying on its network of Android devices (millions) to make it easier to locate headphones or other lost objects if they are not more within your reach. This will also work for Tile and Chipolo Bluetooth beacons.
