Some libraries have resumed Sunday service

Starting today, some New York City library branches will once again be open on Sundays.

Three branches of the New York Public Library were opened: the Parkchester Library in the Bronx, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library in Manhattan, and the Todt Hill-Westerleigh Library on Staten Island.

Also open in Queens are the Jamaica Central Library and the Flushing Library.

Likewise, in Brooklyn, the Central Library in Prospect Park and the Kings Highway Library are reopening.

Libraries were forced to eliminate Sunday service due to budget cuts last year.

The mayor’s office agreed to restore $58 million in funding for city libraries for the new fiscal year.

Library officials say this funding is necessary to enable libraries to serve their communities.

The remainder of the Sunday service will reopen on a rolling basis over the coming weeks.
