SpaceX’s Starship rocket could fly for the first time by the end of next week. The new estimate for carrying out the vehicle’s orbital flight test was released by Elon Musk, the company’s CEO, in a tweet published on Monday (10).

“The Starship launch tends (to happen) towards the end of the third week of April”, he wrote, in the publication. Although there is still no exact date for the flight, the schedule proposed by Musk suggests that it will happen around the 20th.

The date for the launch also depends on the orbital launch license, granted by the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States, responsible for regulating aviation in the country. While awaiting authorization, the company has been preparing for the launch.
Some of the prep work was seen over the last week, when technicians put together prototypes of the Super Heavy booster and the Starship spacecraft; together they formed a rover more than 100 m tall.

The Super Heavy features 33 Raptor engines, capable of generating over 16 million pounds of thrust; the Starship contains six. When launched, the vehicle will become the most powerful rocket ever created — for now, the title belongs to NASA’s Space Launch System rocket, which generates 8.8 million pounds of thrust.
