In its latest report, Frontex sounds the alarm regarding the number of irregular entries into Europe. Indeed, many Algerian nationals choose Spain to immigrate there illegally. And a good number of them find themselves stuck in the penal centers of this country.

The tensions between the two Moroccan and Algerian peoples never calm down. Even abroad, the clashes between these two neighboring peoples never end. The most recent took place in Spain, notably in the penitentiary center of Murcia II in Campos del Río.

Violent clashes between Moroccan and Algerian detainees in Spain

Indeed, according to the Spanish press, which quotes the Professional Association of Prison Officials, since the beginning of January 2023, the Murcia II prison center in Campos del Río has been suffering from tensions between these Moroccan and Algerian prisoners, some of whom are identified like miners, who end up causing violent clashes.

The facts go back to a simple brawl between these detainees, but despite the intervention of security agents and the application of isolation measures, tensions have not calmed down. Other clashes took place a few days later, showing rare violence according to the Professional Association of Prison Officials.

To control the situation, the management of this center decided to call for reinforcements to calm the tensions between these detainees.

What is the number of Algerian detainees in France?

France is also one of the favorite countries of Algerians. In addition, a good number of Algerians also end up in prisons. In its latest report, the French Ministry of Justice indicated that the number of Algerian detainees is on the rise in France.

Indeed, in 2022, France recorded 3,974 Algerians placed in its prisons. And this, against 2750 Algerian detainees in 2021. Moreover, with regard to Moroccans, the French Ministry of Justice reported 2093 Moroccans incarcerated in penal centers in France.
