With Peter Safran and James Gunn taking over as the new top brass for the DCU, there were a lot of big changes. Not least, many actors were shown the door in favor of new talents who are supposed to take the superheroes into the future. One of those who have remained so far is Jason Momoa and he firmly clings to Aquaman, yes he has even claimed to the media that the role is his forever.
But is this really true? As we know, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom hasn’t premiered yet, and we won’t hear about any concrete decision regarding Momoa’s future as the deep sea’s answer to Superman until after the film is launched. Of course, this doesn’t stop the speculation from continuing and DC Studios boss Peter Safran has in one interview with Men’s Health hinting that he would love to see Momoa in another role, namely Lobo.
“I look forward to working with Jason for many years to come. I would be happy for it to be in Arthur Curry’s world, but if/when another opportunity came up, I’d find another great character for him to create.”
Safran mentions that Momoa has expressed himself how Lobo is a character he really likes. But at the same time, he would never get to play two DC superheroes at the same time.
“Jason always thought Aquaman was a trilogy in his own mind. But he also loves Lobo. He’s been very clear about that, too. He’s never gonna play two characters, but no decision has been made.”
The DC boss also took the opportunity to praise Momoa and describes him as a genuinely nice guy.
“What you see is what you get with Jason. I have been working with him for six or seven years, and I keep waiting for the proverbial other shoe to drop. If there is an inner asshole in him, it has never come out. That, to me, is a surprise . . . albeit a very pleasant one.”
In short, it seems that Momoa’s future at DC is secure, but whether it will be as Aquaman, Lobo or perhaps something else entirely remains to be seen.
