The Skywalker saga consists (currently) of nine theatrical films that three trilogies are divided. Episodes 4 to 6 form the middle part of the story in terms of time, but were released first. In Germany, at the end of the 1970s, “Star Wars” was still referred to as “War of stars”. Only when the conclusion of the classic trilogy started in German cinemas on December 9, 1983 was the addition “Star Wars” added to the title The Return of the Jedi. Started for the 40th anniversary episode 6 again in the cinemas.

Star Wars: Episode 6 – Return of the Jedi is back in cinemas

The excitement was great when the return of the Jedi Knights to the big screen was announced at this year’s Star Wars Celebration alongside new films and new series. Appropriately, an epic sounding new movie poster revealed. The artist is Matt Ferguson, as he was 40 years ago.

He said: “I am extremely happy and grateful to be able to work on these films again and even more so to have the freedom to continue what I started with ‘Empire’.” The new movie poster features a black-clad Luke Skywalker framed by an oversized portrait of Darth Vader. Underneath, the Emperor sits threateningly on his throne. The scene seems a bit bizarre because the environment is the Forest Moon Endor was chosen and Palpatine as Darth Sidious is sitting in the open.

Star Wars: Episode 6 – Return of the Jedi – the cinema release was so successful

While the Star Wars fans in the USA and Great Britain could look forward to the opportunity to experience the old classic of the star saga again on the big screen, unfortunately in this country you looked into the tube instead of a projection. A re-enactment is in Germany not previously planned. Cinemas always need the permission of the rights holder to be able to show films publicly for an admission fee.

For cinema operators in North America, the re-release of Star Wars: Episode 6 – Return of the Jedi was well worth it. The 40-year-old sci-fi classic grossed around $4.7 million, which equates to number 5 on the box office, just behind John Wick 4.

For a film that is likely to be available on DVD in countless households and that can be streamed at any time, this is certainly a very good result. Especially for many younger fanswhich may have only arrived with the series on Disney Plus or Episodes 7 to 9 and with the spin-offs of the star saga, which made the re-enactment the 40th anniversary probably the perfect opportunity to experience the magic of the classic trilogy for the first time on the big screen.
