Starbucks workers to strike at more than 150 stores over Pride Month decorations

NEW YORK- The union of workers of the American chain of cafeterias Starbucks has called a strike in more than 150 stores considering that the company rejects the decoration with LGBTQ + motifs in some stores to celebrate Pride Month every June in the United States, a extreme that the company has denied.

“Protest with pride. Starbucks’ Seattle (Texas) cafeteria is leading a national protest over Starbuck’s hypocritical treatment of LGBTQ+ workers,” said a statement that said 3,500 workers would join the strike next week.

On June 13, the union denounced that Starbucks had banned Pride decorations in stores throughout the US, although as EFE was able to verify this is done in a different way.

Chain spokesman Andrew Trull, quoted by our sister chain NBC, then insisted that Starbucks supports the LGBTQ+ community and stressed that “no policy has been changed in this regard and we continue to encourage those responsible for our stores to celebrate this event with their communities, including Pride Month in June.

In the US, it is very common for large companies to decorate the facades and the interior of their premises during the month of June, considered LGBTQ+ month nationwide, for reasons in solidarity with this community.

Last May, the US supermarket chain Target withdrew part of its products intended to celebrate the month dedicated to the LGBTQ+ community in the US due to threats from some customers, the company reported in a statement.

And Bud Light beer has also suffered a boycott by the American extreme right for having used a trans influencer, Dylan Mulvaney, in its advertising.
