SpaceX’s Starship rocket exploded during its test flight in Texas, spraying debris on the south coast and leaving a colossal crater on the launch pad. The FAA is investigating the crash, with SpaceX forced to ground all Starship rockets.

Shocking videos posted online show Elon Musk’s Starship rocket spraying debris on the south coast of Texas as it blasted off from its launch pad. The enormous rocket, 120 meters high, took off from Boca Chica, Texas on Thursday morning, but ignited just four minutes after takeoff.

Aerial footage shows the colossal crater left by the Starship rocket explosion

The explosion sent debris fly thousands of miles an hourdamaging a car parked miles away and sending a gigantic cloud of dust over the Gulf of Mexico on an otherwise sunny day.

Images taken from thousands of feet away show the dust cloud slowly engulfing the area. The pictures also show the colossal crater and the destroyed launch pad, left in the wake of the rocket. This launch pad was about 60 meters in length.

At the time of this writing, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has grounded all of SpaceX’s Starship rockets. The FAA is currently investigating the accident to ensure that ” any system, process or procedure does not affect public safety a standard procedure, officials said.

« This is a first test flight for Starship said Elon Musk, the boss of SpaceX. ” And the goal is to gather the data and, like we said, clean the pad and get ready to go again ” he added.
