North Rhine-Westphalia has suspended the deportation of Sudanese who are required to leave the country. The NRW refugee ministry justified this on Tuesday with the security situation in the north-east African country. There is currently a real obstacle to return to Sudan; People are currently not being deported to Sudan, the press spokeswoman confirmed to the Evangelical Press Service (epd). According to the information, a total of 750 Sudanese nationals currently live in North Rhine-Westphalia. 33 of them are required to leave the country. The violence in Sudan has so far not been reflected in the number of refugees in Germany, it said. As of April 26, the nationwide access from Sudan was 234 people in the current year.

Power struggles between the military escalated in mid-April

A power struggle between the army chief, General Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan, and the commander of the RSF militia, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, known as “Hemeti”, has been escalating in Sudan since mid-April. Since Tuesday, the opponents have agreed on ceasefires several times, which are broken again and again.

At least 528 people have been killed and more than 4,500 injured since the fighting began, according to the Sudanese Ministry of Health. The actual number of victims is likely to be higher.
