Then the Minister of Industry, Ahmed Zeghdar in turn announced the signing of an agreement with the Italian brand Fiat, for the opening of a car assembly plant in Oran. Since then, the announcements have multiplied and Algerian consumers are growing impatient.

According to a statement made public today, on Thursday February 9, the Minister of Industry, Ahmed Zaghdar, received the director of the Africa and Middle East region of the automobile manufacturing group Stellantis, Samir Cherfan, with whom he reviewed the progress of the automotive construction project of the Fiat project in Algeria.

During this meeting, which took place yesterday at the headquarters of the ministry, the two parties reviewed the state of progress of the automobile construction project in Algeria of the Italian brand Fiat, one of the subsidiaries of the Stellantis group.

Samir Cherfan presented, for this purpose, the different stages of this project and those in progress in order to complete, as soon as possible, the realization of the plant, added the press release.

The two parties also examined ways to accelerate the pace of implementation of the project, located in Tafraoui in the wilaya of Oran, on a land base of 40 ha, the ministry said.

Zeghdar reaffirms Algeria’s availability to support the Italian partner

In this respect, Ahmed Zeghdar reaffirmed the availability of his services to support the Italian partner in the realization of the different stages of his project.

To conclude, it should be noted that a team of experts from the Fiat group is currently in Algeria to inquire about the progress of the project, prospect and identify potential local suppliers and subcontractors to supply the components and parts plant, in order to achieve local integration objectives.
