There are few who thought that the engineers behind the Steam Deck would see their creation in a war. In videos and photos from Ukraine, we can see how soldiers try to control the machine gun turret with it. Whether it proves to be a cost-effective means in the conflict is difficult to say. The advantage of buying a Steam Deck is that it is often cheaper than a military equivalent, and is not subject to similar export controls. Bellingcat researcher Aric Toler told PC Gamer:
“Totally native OS client, great controller you can use, touch screen, etc”.
The towers the machine gun is attached to are called Shablya and are developed by Roboneers. It has a thermal camera, rangefinder and can be controlled by users remotely. It enables Steam Deck as an alternative to other solutions. You can see a picture of it all below and a video in this article.
