CHICAGO (AP) — Patrick Wisdom and Yan Gomes homered to lead unbeaten Justin Steele and the Chicago Cubs to a 10-4 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday, snapping a three-game skid.
Steele (6-0) allowed three runs and seven hits in six innings, striking out three and walking three. He became the first pitcher with six wins this season in the National League.
Nolan Arenado hit his first 3-pointer of the season for St. Louis, which had won three straight after losing eight straight.
Jordan Montgomery (2-5) lost for the fifth time in six starts, giving up six runs in five innings. He issued a pair of walks to load the bases in the second inning, but had Christopher Morel strike out without swinging for a strikeout that ended the problem.
Montgomery’s fortunes changed an inning later, when Wisdom hit his 12th home run, a two-run shot that gave the Cubs the lead for good.
For the Cardinals, Venezuelans Willson Contreras 4-1 with an RBI, Juan Yepez 2-1 with a run scored.
For the Cubs, the Dominican Morel 4-2 with a run scored and two RBIs.
