Almost everyone has it, it does not incur any additional costs and it burns well. There’s just one catch: it’s forbidden.

Stove: what you better not burn

And not only that. Too damp wood must not be used. Damp wood leads to high dust emissions when burned. The smoke increases soot deposits in the fireplace and chimney, which in the worst case can even lead to a chimney fire.

However, the wood should not be too dry and the water content should not fall below 10 percent. A water content of 10 to 17 percent is optimal. The video from the Technology and Promotion Center shows that fuel that is too moist leads to high dust emissions.
Which fuel is the most climate-friendly?
Coal requires little storage space and retains heat longer. One advantage of using wood as fuel for the fireplace is that it generates heat more quickly. When it comes to costs, coal is just a step ahead, while wood is more climate-friendly.
