Street artists show works in prestigious museum

PARS.- About 60 artists Starting today -June 12th- street gangs invade the Petit Palais, one of the most prestigious museums in Parscon construction that are mixed with the permanent collection of the 19th century, which includes masters such as Delacroix.

Among the invited artists, who present 200 works, are well-known names such as Shepard Fairey, alias Obey (United States), D*FACE or Hush (United Kingdom), Seth (France), Vhils (Portugal), Inti (Chile), among others.

“I would never have imagined exhibiting at the Petit Palais,” Chilean artist Inti explained to AFP in French, who presented Order, a huge painting seven meters high that remembers the Virgin of Guadalupe. Indi assured that she likes to separate workshop work from street work.

“It is a challenge to enter the world of galleries, the codes change, I am not looking for money but to do what I want and continue appropriating the space,” he added.

Artists dialogue with the works

The artists dialogue with the masterpieces that surround them; for example, the Tunisian DaBro, with a work titled Chtelet-les-Halleswhich represents a night scene in the streets of downtown Paris, which merges with the nineteenth-century paintings that surround it.

One of the most spectacular proposals of this exhibition is We are Here: the presentation of dozens of paintings that completely cover one of the walls of the museum, with human figures or their caricatures.

“It’s incredible, I’m making a dream come true, it’s a historic moment,” declared the Londoner D*FACE, who chose to leave his mark, spray-painted angel wings.

The American artist Obey, known for his poster Hope (Esperanza), of Barack Obama’s campaign in 2008, he painted a Marianne, the emblem of the French Republic, with a tear of blood. A response to the 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris.

“As someone who comes from the working class, you don’t always feel accepted in art museums. With street art, those museums welcome everyone,” explained Hush, a British artist. “And you can still be a troublemaker, you can still have fun,” he added.
