Taika Waititi releases update for live-action Akira film

The director Taika Waititi (Thor: Love and Thunder) released an update on the live-action adaptation of Akira.

In an interview with Inversethe director commented on his future projects, revealing that he is currently focused on adapting the book Klara eo Sol.

“(Klara and the Sun) is something I’ve wanted to do for a while now, so I intend to focus on that. And then I have this whole backlog of other things (including Akira and a new Star Wars movie).”said Waititi.

Although he is not focusing on Akira at the moment, the filmmaker shared a little of his vision for the film. He stated that he was more focused on the original manga by Katsuhiro Otomo than the 1988 film.

“Obviously, I think people who loved the movie, I want to make sure that they also read the books because there’s a lot more there than in the movie. And some people are very protective of the movie, which isn’t exactly the same thing as the movies. books. So we’re leveraging a lot of the original material.”added the director.

Waititi was officially announced as director by Warner Bros. almost five years ago. In April, the editor-in-chief ofDeadline,Justin Krollconfirmed that production was still in development.
