Chassidy Saunders was taken by a family friend to a child’s birthday party in Miami. Around 7:00 pm on January 16, 2021, when the party was ending, a shootout ensued in which two adults were injured and Chassidy was shot in the headwhich caused his death.

The shooting was perpetrated from a black vehicle that sped away from the scene.

It transpired that Buckner, 22, was already in custody on other unrelated federal charges and indicted for second-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder.

Buckner was also arrested in connection with a mass shooting at another event, but prosecutors dropped those charges after he allegedly confessed to the crime in the absence of his attorney.

Chassidy’s family is relieved by the indictment, but still has unanswered questions. They want to know how Buckner is connected to the murder of his granddaughter, and they hope to get more information about it.

Due to a potential conflict of interest, the case is being prosecuted by the Broward State Attorney’s Office instead of the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office.

The family plans to come together to honor the memory of Chassidy Saunders in a special ceremony.
