The computer manufacturer Lenovo has conducted a survey to find out what Europeans’ relationship with the gaming world looks like and how it affects them in the real world. We have since been able to share the results at the same time as we have chosen to focus on the Swedish figures for this news release. In this research, Swedes have also been asked a number of game-related questions in order to map how the impact of games is reflected in their own self-image as well as in working life.

In Europe, for example, 55 percent prefer their virtual self to their own personality, and when Swedes were asked to describe their persona when playing, many chose to use words like funny, creative and “like a fighter”, this while the same people used the words serious , creative and practical when they would describe how they were at their workplace. A majority of the surveyed Swedes then said that they felt most like themselves when they were allowed to be at home and play, while several others also thought that they could be natural in the company of friends or when performing other types of hobbies. Only a little over a quarter could say that they felt like themselves when they were working.

The survey also covered specific genres, and according to Lenovo, those who work as developers, healthcare professionals and economists should feel most at home playing strategy games. So now you know.

Finally, the study tells us that between 30-40 percent of the respondents felt that playing has developed them in a positive way as they feel that they have become more creative, stress-resistant and better at communicating after playing.

Why be yourself when you can be so much more!
