Taekwondo players Miguel Ramos and Fabiola Ruiz start with silver and bronze medals

taekwondists Miguel Ramos and Fabiola Ruiz started this Tuesday with medals on the first day of taekwondo, an event that is held at the Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic sub-venue of the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2023.

Ramos was the first medal of the day for Puerto Rico in the poomsae modality with a score of 7.370. The podium was completed by the Nicaraguan Elian Ortega with gold (7,610) and the silver went to the Colombian Isaac Vélez (7,400).

“I feel super excited about this bronze medal that I won. I’m happy. I feel very adrenaline. Happy and happy with the support. I dedicate this medal to my mother, my family, the people who support me and to God, ”said Ramos, who is in his first Games.

The second medal for the modality was Fabiola Ruiz’s in “freestyle poomsae”. The Puerto Rican did a routine of 6,960. The gold went to María Higueros from Centro Caribe Sports with a score of 7,020. The bronze was obtained by the Mexican Hyun Lee with 6,380.

“I feel happy. The job was done. I gave everything for Puerto Rico. It was what we wanted. I am very proud of my work and the team. That medal was achieved, which was so longed for,” said Ruiz, who won bronze by team in the last Barranquilla 2018 edition.

The poomsae debuted at the 2018 Barranquilla Games. At that time, Puerto Rico won an individual bronze medal and a team bronze.

Women’s volleyball wins first

The women’s national volleyball team defeated Mexico in four sets, 25-15, 25-20, 21-25 and 25-23, at the start of the 2023 San Salvador tournament.
