Taken "dangerous" he breaks out of jail using sheets

WARREN, Pensilvania — Federal, state and local agency authorities were searching Saturday for an inmate described by police as “very dangerous” who escaped from a northwestern Pennsylvania jail using bed sheets, authorities said.

Michael Burham, 34, escaped from a Warren jail by climbing on exercise equipment and using sheets to climb out a window, authorities said. Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens said Burham was being held on $1 million bail for kidnapping, robbery and other charges, and Warren police said he was a suspect in a homicide investigation.

Law enforcement authorities believe Burham is still in the Warren area and has likely changed his clothes since escaping wearing a blue jean coat and orange prisoner overalls, Bivens said at a news conference Saturday. Burham is “a self-taught survivalist with military experience and could hide out in a wooded area,” Bivens added.

“It is considered very dangerous and the population is asked to be vigilant and report anything out of the ordinary,” police posted on Facebook.

The US Federal Marshals Service is offering a $7,500 reward for information leading to Burham’s capture, and Crime Stoppers is offering $2,000, Bivens said.
