In the midst of the claim of the Buenos Aires teachers for delays and uncertain terms to obtain their retirement, the opposition bloc of provincial deputies requested a request for reports from the Social Welfare Institute (IPS) to know the situation in detail. The legislators requested information on the number of claims and/or complaints filed, the digitalization of files and the deadlines from the beginning to the end of the process.

In mid-April, teachers from different cities in the Province moved to La Plata to demonstrate in front of the IPS facilities. The protest had a large number of teachers who marched to the pension headquarters of 47 between 5 and 6 to denounce enormous delays with their files. “This procedure should not take more than twelve months to be resolved quickly and without intermediaries,” said a protester.

In addition, there is also the drama of those beneficiaries who must receive their salaries for charges of extension hours from private schools. They are teachers who had leadership positions and who worked more hours in schools. In their case, they joined the claim and the protest in La Plata because the portion of the hourly extension of their charges is not automatically accredited as it happens with the base charges, having to carry out cumbersome procedures to update them.

In this sense, the legislators pointed out that “there are numerous and diverse complaints from teachers while the official communication channels of the IPS do not respond.”

“Many teachers turn to pension lawyers or unions to carry out their procedures when it should be a simple, self-managed and cost-free procedure,” they said.

The opposition legislators assured that “the retirement process for Buenos Aires teachers depends on the General Directorate of Culture and Education (DGCyE, for public administration teachers), the Private Education Directorate (DIEGEP, in the case of public administration teachers), private) and the Institute of Social Welfare of the Province of Buenos Aires (IPS), a public body that promotes progress and modernization on its social networks, but does not admit receiving comments or claims from the beneficiaries.

“It is even more serious that many teachers and education assistants also claim that they cannot communicate through any of the official communication channels, so they must resort to the advice of the teaching unions for their procedures or to the social security lawyers who charge them fees. for issues that should be self-managed. At this time when the country is experiencing a serious economic crisis, it seems very unfair that teachers who worked all their lives have to bear these expenses,” they said.
