One of the most beloved series of recent times, Ted Lasso has just come to an end after just three seasons. The great success of Apple TV+ won over different audiences, not just those who are football fans.

Ted Lassoproduced by and starring Jason Sudeikis, tells the story of an American football coach who receives a different proposal: to coach an English football team, what Americans call “soccer”, even without any experience with the sport.

The coach’s choice was made by Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham), who stayed with her husband’s team after the divorce with the intention of destroying the club as revenge for the numerous betrayals. So what would be a cruel plan became one of the most important experiences lived by the team.

During the third and final season of Ted Lasso, many fans, perhaps in denial with the end, even scored several criticisms of the progress of the series. Many said that some details didn’t make sense, others that the episodes were weak and lacking in emotion. All criticisms were valid, as it is extremely difficult to sustain a good plot, even with well-constructed characters and situations, for a long time.

Then, as other successful productions have done recently (Succession, Barry, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Ted Lasso came to an end at the right time, leaving no room for grotesque mistakes that would end this journey in an unpalatable way. Even with some stumbles along the way, the final season of the Apple TV+ series managed to close the full cycle with mastery and, of course, many life lessons.

How football should be

Ted Lasso it has always featured characters that make reference to well-known soccer players, either because of their attitudes or simply because of the way they dress. The series, however, chose to go for a more human side of the sport, bringing all the frailties of the characters, transforming even the most cliché player into an admirable person in the end.

Fame and money, in fact, corrupt, especially the most dazzled players with the opportunities they conquer within the sport. But Ted Lasso showed what a perfect world in football would look like, with men facing the notorious fragile masculinity, questioning homophobia, xenophobia and racism on and off the field. In real life, these changes have been happening, slowly, and the series shows that it is not impossible to have this key turn, just have the right people by your side.

to final season of Ted Lasso managed to include minorities in sport, bringing all these debates and closing without forgetting women. Thanks to the complicity of the characters Rebecca and Keeley Jones (Juno Temple), one of the last scenes of the series shows the proposal to create an AFC Richmond women’s soccer team, ending the club’s success with a golden key.

The team was never the best and was always in the “almost”. Even without major championship victories, AFC Richmond is the great moral champion of leagues in Europe, perhaps the world. Ted Lasso’s presence transformed the lives of club staff, players and spectators alike.

Believe

Ted Lasso is a series that manages to be motivational without being completely unrealistic or too sappy, always with its feet on the ground and watered with empathy. There are those who disagree, stating that a series about what it means to be a good person is boring, especially when you expect to dive into the world of football.

But is watching people evolve in a way that resonates with and suggests improvements to society as a whole really that bad? That, along with extremely charismatic characters and jokes that don’t offend minorities.

like it or not Ted Lasso and what the series has become, the “believe”, Lasso’s great mantra, marked and will continue to mark the entertainment world. One of the coolest coaches in the sport and in the world of series had a brief passage through the club and through our lives, admirably fulfilling his mission of transforming the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.

You can now watch all episodes of Ted Lasso no Apple TV+.
