Tentative agreement halts possible strike by Encore workers in Boston

A tentative agreement was reached between unionized workers at Encore Boston Harbor and Wynn Resorts not long before a strike deadline that will take effect at midnight on the end of the month.

With a June 30 deadline, unionized Encore casino workers had voted overwhelmingly to go on strike as they sought a “five-star contract” at the Everett, Massachusetts, resort.

Workers affected include room attendants, cocktail servers, bar bouncers, cooks, dishwashers, public area cleaners and drivers, according to a news release. United Here Local 26 and International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 25 have bargained together since the casino opened in 2019, with their first contract expiring on April 19 of this year.

According to a press release from the unions, workers from UNITE HERE Local 26 and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 25 called off the strike deadline, set for June 30 at midnight, after an agreement was reached. attempt with the casino in Everett, Massachusetts.

A week after he threatened to go on strike, unions said the tentative deal meant “five-star wages, excellent benefits and job security.” The agreement still needs to be ratified by unionized workers on Friday.
