Terence Crawford: "I will retire from boxing before I let boxing retire me"

Terence Crawford comes from getting one of the best victories of his career last Saturday in Las Vegas after defeating Errol Spence Jr. in the ninth round of their exciting fight.

This victory raised Crawford as the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world and extended his record to a perfect 40-0while ending Spence’s unbeaten streak.

And now when he is on everyone’s lips as the unified welterweight world champion, he spoke to TMZ Sports about his possible retirement before the sport itself forces him to retire once age and damage catch up with him.

I’m about to turn 36 so I don’t see myself continuing to box much longer.. I’ve been doing it for a long time. I have always said that I will retire from boxing before letting boxing retire me,” she said.

Crawford was fully aware that time and the damage accumulated over years in boxing eventually catches up with everyone.

Retire or fight Canelo?

The victory against Errol Spence Jr. also raised the possibility that Crawford would challenge the Mexican Canelo Álvarez, who is one of the best boxers today.

However, Crawford himself took it upon himself to dispel those rumors and set the record straight, stating that he is not interested in a fight with Canelo.

I’m not interested in Canelo because of the size factor. He is two divisions, three, or even four divisions above me, because you don’t know what weight he is fighting anymore,” she maintained.

And he commented: “Canelo fighting at his weight does not represent the right type of challenge that I am looking for. I have been asked that question many times before and have always had the same answer. I am firm in my position.”

After these statements, Crawford affirmed that the next challenge in his career is very far from being Canelo.
