For the second time this year, carmaker Tesla has slashed prices for its Model 3 to boost sales. A price reduction was also announced for the Model Y Performance, Model S and Model X.

Tesla drastically cuts prices

According to Teslamag, it has Company already confirmedthat the prices will now be reduced for all currently available vehicles, i.e. for Model 3, Model Y, Model S and Model X – but not in all variants. For the Model Y, there is only a reduction in the performance model. The price of the Model S and Model X falls by 10,000 euros each.

Something has also been done with the prices of the Model 3 – the price reduction is the most generous percentage for the vehicle. Buyers now only pay 60,990 euros for the performance variant instead of 64,990 euros, which is ten percent less than before. Specifically, the price changes now look like this:

Tesla model 3 Model Y
default range old 43,990 euros
new 41,990 euros
old 44,890 euros
new 44,890 euros
long range old 53,990 euros
new 50,990 euros
old 54,990 euros
new 54,990 euros
performance old 60,490 euros
new 54,990
old 64,990 euros
new 60,990 euros

The changes are not entirely unexpected. In December, Elon Musk said that “radical interest rate changes” had severely impacted vehicle affordability and that Tesla could potentially lower prices. Tesla has confirmed the new prices for the European market in a press mailing list. The decision is described in an official statement as part of the “transformation from expensive small-series products to cheaper mass-series vehicles” according to the company’s first master plan.

BAFA funding

The price reductions this time do not result in any changes regarding the BAFA funding. A few weeks ago, the price reduction had led to higher subsidies from the state. This year there have already been some price reductions for the vehicles from the electric car manufacturer. In China, this even led to protests, as buyers loudly criticized the changes.

Summary

  • Tesla cuts prices for Model 3, Y, S and X.
  • Model 3 price by 10%, Model S and X by 10,000 euros.
  • Price reductions as part of the first master plan.
  • No changes regarding BAFA funding.
  • Protests in China after previous price cuts.
