The switch to USB-C brings a number of options previously unknown under iOS.

With the latest generation of iPhones, more than just energy can enter the iPhone via the charging port. It is also possible to charge other devices via it – including other iPhones.

Charge until the battery is empty

If an older iPhone is plugged in via a Lightning USB adapter, it will be charged until it is full or the battery of the charging device is empty.

Smarter charging only on newer devices

With two USB-C iPhones, the one with the higher battery level will charge the one with the lower one. Android devices can also be charged with the iPhone or charge it too.

But don’t count on fast speeds: when charging each other, you only get a maximum of up to 4.5 watts…
