The America’s Cup 2024 It will be held in the United States and will have the novelty that six countries that belong to Concacaf will participate. This modification was announced by Conmebol, which clarified that the contest it will be during the “summer of 2024″ of the northern hemisphere and that it will have the ten members of that body to which the “six best Concacaf teams will be added, as guests.” Argentina, also world champion, will defend the title obtained in Brazil 2021.
The six Concacaf teams who will play the most important championship at the South American team level will qualify through the 2023/24 Concacaf Nations League.
The United States is one of three countries – along with Canada and Mexico – that will host the World Cup in 2026.
This “strategic agreement” also contemplates the women’s team invitation to the Concacaf tournament but an outstanding fact is that “there will be a new club tournament”.
Copa América 2024: why it will be played in the United States
The two leaders of both entities gave their opinion about this union for the Copa América 2024. Alejandro Domínguez assured: “They are united by historical and affective ties. But above all, the passion, characteristic of all America, for soccer unites us and sport. We are determined to renew and expand our joint initiatives and projects. We want this passion translates into more and better competitions and that soccer and its values grow and strengthen throughout the hemisphere. Without a doubt, both confederations believe big and work with this orientation.”
On the other hand, Víctor Montagliani, president of Concacaf, launched: “This association is for support the continued growth of men’s and women’s soccer in Concacaf and Conmebol, and it will really be mutually beneficial for both Confederations. Working hand in hand with Conmebol, we will offer elite competitions that will provide more opportunities for our federations and that we know the fans want to see. We will work together to ensure that football in both regions continues to thrive.”
Argentina will defend the trophy won in Brazil 2021
The women’s branch of the competition will have as a novelty that the four best countries of Conmebol will be in the Concacaf Gold Cup W 2024 that will also be held in the United States. Brazil, Colombia, Argentina and Paraguay will be the representatives of this side of the continent in that edition as a result of the results they obtained in the 2022 women’s Copa América that ended with the Brazilians as champions.
