The AfD presents a candidate for the European elections who wants to abolish 80% of the institutions

Go against Europe but from within. Or what is the same, reform Europe and turn it into something else through the institutions themselves. This is the objective of the AfD in Germany, which has already chosen a candidate for the 2024 European elections with a very different line from what they defend in Brussels today.

Maximilian Krah openly acknowledges his criticism of the system imposed in the European Union. On a German radio he even said that what is in Brussels is a “bureaucratic monster” and that 80% of the structure could be dispensed with. It is not surprising that the election of him as number one of the AfD has caused a stir in Germany.

A member of the European Parliament since 2019, Krah defends a European Union different from the one we see today. The AfD defends a greater autonomy of the Member States with respect to the EU and the only intervention of the Union in obvious cases such as the protection of borders.

For Krah, the European Commission is too big an entity with endless subdivisions that could be abolished. He advocates withdrawing for the moment any European institution that oversees the fight against climate change.

The AfD chose Krah as its candidate with 65% of the votes, which it interpreted as a response to the fight against the climate, immigration, war and the family. In his speech, the newly appointed candidate assured that his party was the “most exciting in all of Europe” within the right and stressed the need for economic and cultural “change” on the continent.

He is a controversial member of the European Parliament, who has been suspended by the European Parliament on several occasions. This year he was out for three months on accusations of contract manipulation and in 2022 he was also sidelined for publicly supporting Éric Zemmour’s party in the French presidential elections instead of Marine Le Pen.
