Rome, Jul 15 (EFE).- The African anticyclone called “Caronte” arrives today in Italy and is expected to exceed 40 degrees Celsius in most of the peninsula, with peaks of 45 degrees in some points and could be beaten the record of 48.8 degrees on the island of Sicily.

According to the European Space Agency, the great heat wave will hit Italy from today, but July 18 and 19 will be the hottest days.

According to different experts, the temperatures in the coming days will be higher than the seasonal averages for July based on the last 30 years, at least 8 degrees, but also more than 10 in the regions of Sardinia, Sicily, Apulia and Calabria.

With the intense heat, the risks to health also increase and in fact the Italian Ministry of Health has indicated a red alert, the most dangerous, 15 cities while starting tomorrow there will be 27.

This new heat wave will also bring with it tropical nights, with lows above 20 degrees, and high humidity, which will increase the sensation of heat.

And so it will be all next week until Thursday, when the heat will continue but they are expected but with lower temperatures, between 34 and 36 degrees.

“We are facing a very hot air mass that will invade not only the entire Mediterranean basin, including Spain and Greece, and the Balkan Peninsula, but also a part of northern Europe, up to Germany with Berlin that could reach and exceed 30 degrees. ”, explained the director of the meteorological observatory “Lamma-Cnr”, Bernardo Gozzini.
