Entrepreneurs described the possible arrival of more migrants before the end of Title 42 on this day as a health risk for the city.

Representatives of different business chambers affirmed that the city is not prepared to receive more people in a situation of mobility and, meanwhile, no authority wants to take charge of the problem.

Rogelio González Alcocer, president of the Business Coordinating Council (CCE), stated that the end of Title 42 will leave the Mexican border vulnerable, since by not having the filter where the entry of people can be stopped or restricted, the spread increases or the introduction of diseases.

“This is worrying given the lack of migration strategies and policies in the country, in addition to the fact that there is no coordination to solve the huge problem we have in the city, which can be aggravated by an imminent mass deportation due to the end of this qualification; Added to this, the excessive arrival of migrants continues to increase and this will gradually aggravate the problem, ”he said.

He added that as a business sector they expect the federal government to take control and call on the State and the Municipality to carry out strategies to solve the problem.

Rogelio Ramos Guevara, president of the National Chamber of Commerce (Canaco), stated that it is not known if foreigners are vaccinated against diseases that are not found in Mexico, which is why they are a health risk for the population.

“What worries us the most right now is the health risk there is, we don’t know if they are vaccinated, if they come sick, if there could be an outbreak of smallpox, and I don’t see the authorities paying attention either,” he said.

“Here the truth is that nobody wants to take charge. There is no measure from the Municipality, the State, or the Federation. Everyone is serious, not getting involved in a solution to this problem, ”he added.

He said that with the militarization of the United States on the border, the risk that migrants who have already entered that country will be returned to Mexico also increases.

“We see that there is a risk as of Thursday, because the United States has already sent soldiers here to El Paso to return all the migrants who are in the second neighborhood, who are somehow sheltered by the church that is there, to all They are going to send them here, and what are we going to do with them?

Jesús Manuel Salayandía Lara, vice president of Maquila and Border Affairs at Canacintra Nacional, expressed that there are many concerns throughout northern Mexico about the possible arrival of more migrants.

“We are visualizing that more people will arrive who will want to cross and we will continue to have the same problems, because Juárez in particular is not prepared in terms of infrastructure or how to serve them at such a level that they are productive,” he declared.

Given the need for labor that the maquila faces, he said that options should be sought to integrate them into the working life of the city.

“An immigration policy must be defined soon, because they are causing a lot of havoc at the borders,” he lamented.
