Yle will also broadcast the European Athletics Championships in 2024 and 2026. Yle received the broadcasting rights when the European Athletics Federation and the European Broadcasting Union, EBU, agreed on an extended agreement.
The contract, which expires in 2027, also includes the indoor EC, junior EC in all age groups and team EC.
– Athletics is one of the sports most popular in Finland. Yle has a long experience of broadcasting athletics. With this contract, we can deliver all the most important athletics events to the Finns in the coming years, says Riku Saaranluoma who is responsible for Yle’s broadcasting rights.
The next European Athletics Championships will be held in Rome in June 2024. Birmingham will host the European Championships in 2026.

Yle has the broadcasting rights for the World Championships in Athletics until 2029. The next World Championships will be held in Budapest in August this year. Athletics is also an important part of the Summer Olympics, for which Yle has broadcasting rights until the year 2032.
In addition to the major international competitions in athletics, Yle also broadcasts domestic highlights such as the Kalevaspelen, Sverigekampen, Paavo Nurmi Games and the GP series.
