In the interview, she first opened up about the challenge of playing Amy: “I’m trying not to be a female version of Jim Parsons. Everyone loves Jim Parsons and we don’t need another Jim Parsons. He’s perfect the way he is he is. So my challenge was to give my character different flavors to not just imitate him.” On top of that, Mayim Bialik was very insecure about her acting work, as she admits to Variety: “I’m not a classically trained actress. So I constantly feel like I’m not good enough as a performer and I try to do my best. Kaley Cuoco and I are the only ones who didn’t go to conservatory. It gives me a certain feeling of inadequacy at times.”

Mayim Bialik is actually studied neuroscientist. In 2007, the American even received her doctorate from the University of California in Los Angeles. In her doctoral thesis she dealt with the Prader-Willi syndrome. During her studies, however, Bialik only acted sporadically. She previously rose to fame with the series Blossom, in which she starred. “The Big Bang Theory” was her breakthrough.

Due to her lack of acting training, Bialik’s insecurity is certainly understandable, but completely unfounded. Her portrayal of Amy in “The Big Bang Theory” was simply masterful. It wasn’t for nothing that she became Four-time Emmy nominees for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. And since she’s still big in business, I guess the rest of the world thinks so too.

“The Big Bang Theory” runs Monday to Friday from 3:40 p.m. on ProSieben.
