Vedanta Limited – Aluminum (Vedanta Aluminum), India’s largest aluminum producer, has received ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) certification for its smelter located in Jharsuguda Special Economic Zone, Odisha, India. The company has been certified for the production of all primary aluminum products in the form of billets, wire rods, primary casting alloys (PFA), ingot and billet, as well as its “Restora” brand of low carbon aluminum products.
Developed through an extensive multi-stakeholder consultation process, the ASI certification program is the only comprehensive voluntary initiative for sustainability standards for the aluminum value chain. The ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) defines environmental and social criteria as well as leadership principles with the aim of addressing sustainability issues in the aluminum value chain. It contains 59 criteria relating to the three pillars of sustainability – environmental, social and governance – and addresses key issues such as biodiversity, labor rights, rights of indigenous peoples and greenhouse gas emissions.
